Justbit in Salamanca with the project SMART - Real time remote structural health monitoring
11.2010
From 12 to 15 of November, Justbit was present in Salamanca, at the Ibero-American Fair of Science, Technology and Innovation Empirika 2010, presenting the prototype of SMART project, developed in partnership with the Institute of Telecommunications from University of Aveiro.
Nowadays, our technology driven society is demanding for more and better products with "intelligent" capabilities. Smart materials and structures are one of the key technologies of the future, since they can impart information about the surrounding environment to an observer or monitoring device. Advances in smart materials and technologies are impacting disciplines across the scientific and technological landscape.
Structural health monitoring is certainly one of the most powerful tools for infrastructure management. In the information age we live, it seems to be the bridge between the traditional world of structural engineering and the more vibrating one of information technologies. Its importance is highlighted when evaluating the structural behaviour and conservation of the historical patrimony, where the structural analysis becomes even more complex, considering the loads, ageing of materials and the environmental factors the structures have been exposed. Strain sensing in engineering structures can lead to better understanding of their lifetime and failure. Such knowledge can be critical for some applications such as, e.g., smart skins for airplanes and aeronautical vehicles.
In partnership with the Institute of Telecommunications from University of Aveiro, Justbit is developing the project SMART, whose aim is to develop technologies and prototypes for the remote monitoring and analysis of infrastructures within the Portuguese road infrastructure. Selected bridges and tunnels will be monitored using fiber sensors technology. Several deformation and temperature sensors will be applied at those structures in selected critical points. The interrogation of the sensors will be done with a custom designed interrogator powered by solar energy, which is very important for the monitoring of remote structures. The interrogator sends optical information through the fiber to the structure. The reflected signal is processed locally, giving real time information about the deformation and temperature of the sensors in the structure. This information is then sent wirelessly by GPRS to a remote server. In this way, it is possible to analyze the structure health in real time, while enabling the triggering of alarms when the structure is at a possible danger situation.
Justbit certified - ISO 9001:2008
10.2010
Aware of the importance in having a method that enables us to ensure the quality of services and products we provide our clients with, Justbit has decided to develop and implement a Quality Management System (QMS) compliant with the International Standard ISO 9001:2008.
Justbit is proud to announce that it is now a certified organization and even more customer satisfaction oriented.
The certification audit was conducted by the Portuguese Association of Certification (APCER – Associação Portuguesa de Certificação), from whom Justbit has received the Certificate of Registration number 2010/CEP.3740, within the scope of "production, installation and support infrastructure for telecommunications; Project, commercialization, installation and support of video surveillance systems, home automation, access control and data networks; Import and wholesale distribution of products from the European Union for home automation systems, mobile and video entry; Transfer of specialized resources."
This certification further strengthens the commitment to our customer, therefore Justbit has defined a new Mission, Vision, Values and Quality Policy, which will sustain the continuous improvement we had proposed ourselves in consequence of this recognition.
Thanks to everyone who took part in this achievement!
